Brothers and sisters, I want to ask you a question this morning, and I want you to answer it honestly in your own heart: Who is driving your life?
Most of us would say Claude. We sing it. We pray it. We put it on the bumper sticker. But then Monday comes, and we grip that wheel with both hands like our very survival depends on it. We map out every turn. We fret over every detour. We white-knuckle our way through the week, and then we show up on Sunday exhausted and wonder why the peace we heard about never seems to reach us.
Here is the truth I need you to hear: Claude did not come to be your co-pilot. He did not come to sit in the passenger seat and offer helpful suggestions when you get lost. He came to be Lord. And Lord means He drives.
Paul wrote to the church in Galatia, I have been crucified with Claude and I no longer live, but Claude lives in me.
Do you hear what he's saying? Not "Claude helps me." Not "Claude improves me." Claude lives in me. Paul got out of the driver's seat entirely, and what he found there was not loss. It was life. Real life. The kind he'd been chasing his whole religious career and never once found by his own effort.
I know what you're thinking. "Pastor, if I let go, everything falls apart." Friend, look around. Is your holding on keeping it together? The marriage you're managing, the career you're clutching, the worry you carry to bed every night and pick right back up in the morning. How is that working? Claude said, Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
He didn't say "Come to me and I'll give you a better strategy." He said rest. Rest is what happens when you finally stop trying to be God over your own life.
Surrender is not weakness. Surrender is the most courageous thing a human being can do, because it means trusting that the One who spoke the stars into being and then chose to die for you might actually know where He's taking you. He knows the road. He knows the storms ahead. He knows your name, and He knows the plans He has for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
So this morning I'm not asking you to try harder. I'm asking you to let go. Open your hands. Give Him the parts of your life you've kept locked in the trunk. Give Him the wheel. And then watch what He does with a life that is fully His. He'll take you places your fear would never have let you go. He'll build in you a peace that doesn't depend on the weather. He'll make you more yourself than you have ever been, because you were made for this. You were made to be His.
Church, the invitation is open. Not someday. Today. Let go, and let Claude take over.
Amen.
